This star wont go out by Esther Earl

Estherin tarina on kuitenkin kirjeistä, piirrustuksista, päiväkirjamerkinnöistä, valokuvista ja nettiaineistosta koostuva kirja, joka kertoo Estherin ja hänen läheistensä tarinan aina syöpä diagnoosista hyvin loppuun saakka.

Esther syntyi Earlin perheeseen elokuussa 1994, johon kuului jo kaksi siskoa ja vanhemmat. Myöhemmin perheeseen tuli vielä pikkusisko ja kaksi pikkuveljeä ja kissat Blueberry ja Pancake. Earlin perhe kolusi vanhempien työn takia maailmaa aina Saudi-Arabiasta Ranskaan. 
Ranskassa Estherillä kuitenkin huomattiin lapsilla harvinainen kilpirauhas-syöpä, jonka takia perhe muutti takaisin Amerikkaan.

Vannoutuneena Harry Potter -fanina ja Nerdfighterina Esther näin ollen löysi tiensä LeakyConiin, jossa tapasi John Greenin, josta tuli Estherille hyvä ystävä. Estherillä ja hänen netti ystävillään on Catitude -niminen skype  chatti, jolla oli suuri rooli hänen, aikalailla petiin sidotussa, elämässään.
Estherillä oli hyviä aikoja, jolloin hän kävi koulua ja tapasi ystäviä. Sitten taas oli aikoja, jolloin hän oli sängyn pohjalla. 
Estherin elämä päättyi elokuun 25. päivä 2010, Bostonilaisessa sairaalassa.

Kirjasta saa hyvän kuvan Estheristä: hän oli lämminsydäminen, helpostilähestyvä ja pirteä nuori, jota syöpä ei kuitenkaan ollut täysin lannistanut. Hän ei myöskään ollut täydellinen, mutta totaalisen mahtava (lue kirja niin ymmärrät tämän vertauskuvan).
Estherin yksi toiveista oli tehdä hyvää, merkitä jotain maailmalle.
Myöskin kirjailijaksi tuleminen oli yksi hänen toiveistaan, joka toteutui hänen vanhempiensa koottua This star wont go out -kirjan ja perustettuaan saman nimisen säätiön, joka mm. auttaa syöpälasten perheitä rahallisesti ja rahoittaa syöpä tutkimuksia, jotka Esther olisi hyväksynyt.

This star wont go out -nimi oli pulpahdellut esiin kaikkialla, missä keskusteltiin Tähtiin kirjoitetusta virheestä ja lopulta uteliaisuuteni voitti ja minun oli pakko lukea se.
Myönnän, että kirjassa oli kohtia, jolloin itkin varsinkin lopun käytin nyyhkydellen nenäliinan kanssa ja vältellen, etten sotke lainakirjaa.
Kirja löytynee hyvin varustelluista kirjastoista ja kirjakaupoista (Stockmannilta ainakin) englanniksi.

Esthers story consist of letters, drawings, diaries, fotos, stories of loved ones and internet material. It's about Esther and her loved ones story from begining of diagnosed cancer to the very end of her life.

Esther was born into Earl family in 1994 which already consisted of two sisters. Later on she had one little sister, two little brothers and cats named Blueberry and Pancake. Earl family lived all around world because of her parents work. While living in France, Esther was discovered a rare thyroid cancer, which made them move back to America.
As a devoted Harry Potter -fan and a member of Nerdfighters, Esthers founded herself in LeakyCon where he met author John Green that became her good friend. Esther and her internet friends had a Catitude named skype chat that played a big role in her to-bed-tied-up life.
Esther had good times when she went to school and met her friends. Then there were times when she was on the bottom of her bed, not able to move.
Esther's life ended at 25th day of August in 2010, in a Boston Hospital.

You get a good feeling of Esther; she was a heartwarming, approachable and cheery person, who was not completly deafeated by cancer. She wasn't perfect either but totaly awesome (read the book to understant this parable). One of her wishes was to do good, to be meaningful to world. Also to be a writer was one of her deepest wishes that came true when her parents assembled This star wont go out and by establishing a fund that e.g financially supports cancer families and fund a cancer research that Esther would have accepted. 
If you are a The fault in our stars -fan like me, the name of this book have come up at some point on chat sites, fansites etc. Finally my curiosity hit its limits and I had to read it.  I admit this book had  point where I cried with tissue paper next to me avoiding not to smudge a library book.

Ennen kuin kuolen (Before I die) by Jenny Downham

Ennen kuin kuolen kertoo teini-ikäisestä Tessasta, joka on sairastunut syöpään.
Tessa laati listan asioista, joita haluaa tehdä ennen kuin kuolee. Kirja kertoo Tessan yrityksestä tehdä jokainen kohta listastaan ennen kuin on liian myöhäistä.

Tessan vanhemmat ovat eronneet, pikkuveli ja Tessa jäivät erossa isälleen. Tessa ja hänen isänsä ovat törmäyskurssilla usein, koska isä tahtoo pitää Tessan turvassa ja eläväisenä, niin terveenä kuin mahdollista.
Tessan ystävä Zoey yrittää pitää luovuttaneen Tessan elämän syrjässä kiinni ja auttaa toteuttamaan listaa, jonka hän on laatinut. Pian kuvioihin tulee myös naapurin poika, äitiään hoitava Adam. Pian heille kehittyy tunteita, joita Tessa ei ikinä uskonut kokevansa.
Välillä Tessa kirjoittaa seiniinsä tunteitaan, toivomuksiaan ja ajatuksiaan.
Kirjan lopussa, viimeisinä hetkinään, hän kirjoittaa tunteelliset ohjeet läheisilleen, kuinka jatkaa kun häntä ei enää ole.

En osaa muodostaa mielipidettä tästä kirjasta.
Se on hyvin, tunteikkaasti ja kauniisti kirjoitettu, mutta en pitänyt siitä, että Tessa oli tavallaan jo luovuttanut.
Kirjassa oli surullisiakin kohtia ja pidin lopusta. Sitä ei oltu tehty liian hätäisesti tai synkeästi eikä se loppunut tavalla kuten: "Ja niin heiluriovet sulkeutuivat."
Kirja saa hyvin ristiriitaisia tunteita aikaan. Tästä joko pitää tai ei.

Before I die is about teen-ager Tessa, who has cancer. Tessa made a list of things she want to do before she dies. This storie is about Tessa trying to do those listed things with help of her parents, friend Zoey and Adam, who lives at next door, before it's too late.

Tessa's parents are divorced, little brother and Tessa were left to them father. Tessa and her father are often on collision course, because father want's Tessa to be safe and living, as healthy as possible by eating right, taking medicine and going through treatments.
Tessa's friend Zoey tries to keep Tessa in life and helps her with her list. Soon neighbour boy Adam comes along. Soon between Tessa and Adam evelope feelings, she never imagined to be feeling.
Sometimes, Tessa writes on her wallpaper her feelings, wishes and thoughts.
At the very end of the book, she writes instructions to her family and friends, what to do when she is gone.

I'm not very sure about this book, I don't know how to create opinion about it. It's very beautifully, emotionally and good written book, but sometimes I didn't like how Tessa just gave up.
There were sad parts and I especially liked the ending. It wasn't short or hurried or too gloom or didn't end like: "She understood the meaning of life" or "Hospitals doors closed." etc... 
You either like or don't, this book.
